  1. Yep ... I really dig it
  2. Just learning about it
  3. Hmmm, not really

Felt Bead Ring -- Haparanda by Madame Bijoux

Felt Bead Ring Haparanda by Madame Bijoux

A beautiful example of felt beads in jewelry! Pictured here is one of my favorites! It's the Haparanda from Madame Bijoux, an Australian indie designer. This super unique & stunning ring is created from pure wool and pearl seed beads. When the wool is wet it is shaped into a durable & washable design. The ring is hand crafted & hand sewn for superb details. Madame Bijoux also had a store on Etsy.

Felt Beaded Ring -- Brown with Blue Beads

Felt Beaded Ring from Madame Bijoux

This was my favorite Felt Beaded Ring from Madame Bijoux, but it sold out in December 2006! Darn, I hope she decides to make more of these.

This handcrafted ring has a wet felted brown ball mounted on an adjustable sterling silver ring. Pretty seed beads has been added for drama! Wool ball approximately 2 cm diameter. This was spotted at Etsy.

Felt Beaded Rings -- Sculptural and Fabulous

felt bead rings by Chris Rom and Geoff Buddie

Wow! These are so cool. They're from Chris Rom and Geoff Buddie, a husband and wife team. Their work has been exhibited at Velvet da Vinci Art Gallery in San Francisco!

From the idea stages through the actual creation and execution of the work we draw on each other's strengths for technical and aesthetic excellence. Hand felted wool and hand sculpted stoneware are the main elements we have chosen to express in our vision. The transformation that occurs in the construction of the felt is magical. Boiling water and soap are added to loose wool fibers encouraging little barbs on the fibers to relax and open. Agitating the wool causes the fibers to bind to one another. As a result the fabric shrinks and becomes dense and thick. Later the fabric is put into an acid bath on the stovetop and dyed to the desired color.

Felt Bead Earrings -- Delightfully Dangly

This pair of felt beaded earrings with chain are from Megu Design. They are approx. 7cm including silver plated earring hook and chain with metallic finished glass seed beads. Shown in vivid green with metallic fibre. They're available in a variety of colors.

Felt Bead Bracelet -- Colorful

Felt Bead Bracelet by thefunkyfelter

Etsy is the greatest online site for finding beautiful and creative handcrafted items such as this one!

This fun bubble bracelet was handmade with 100% wool beads. A combination of feltmaking techniques was used to create the multi-colored beads. Colors include orange, blue, blue-green, purple, and hot pink.

Unlike other wool bead bracelets, this bracelet is made from half beads that are dome shaped. This allows the bracelet to sit comfortably flush with your wrist. Each bead is approximately 0.75 inch (2 cm) in diameter and sits 0.5 inch (1.27 cm) high. The bracelet base is a quality silver plated metal with a snap lock closure. It is approximately 8 inches (20 cm) in length. The bracelet was assembled using the industrial strength craft glue E6000 for durability and wear.

This is from thefunkyfelter and sold for $22.00.

Felt Necklace -- Karin Wagner

Felt Necklace Karin Wagner
This is truly a beautiful work of art by Karin Wagner. It was spotted at Patina Gallery.

She makes each piece by hand, giving them a unique charm. She creates accessories, bags and scarves, always ornate with floral motifs. If chance led her to felt, she is not new to creation.

'Working with felt is simple. All you need is sheep wool, water, soap and your hands. It's wonderful to transform these long strips of wool into three-dimensional objects, only by moving your fingers! I try to invent shapes as light as possible.'

She manages to transform this rough material into objects of aerial lightness, very well designed, incredibly delicate, in a range of soft and tender colours.

Anette stared as an apprentice in a seamstress shop. Then, she studied textile design in Maastrich Holland. After graduation, she opened a silkscreen studio in Bonn, Germany to print her designs and introduce them to the public.

Shortly after her first exhibition in Bonn she began to work with felt. She had found the material fascinating since she had been introduced to the concept of textiles as jewelry in Holland. Within a short time she had produced some wonderful designs in bracelets and earrings. This was the beginning of her current collection of contemporary jewelry combining felt, stainless steel, sterling silver and freshwater pearls.

Everything you wanted to know about Mary-Ann Williams!

  • She was born 1965 in Cape Town, South Africa, studied Design in Cape Town and Germany and decided to stay in Germany because of Apartheid.
  • In 1984 she started using felts (felting) for fashion and hats.
  • After starting with her own fashion and hats collection she later specialized in the development of textile products in the HIGH END section of interior design. Her hat designs are furious. She is a hat-architect. She has become cult object through her hats. ... as well as the hats.
  • She creates home accessories, bowls, lights, table accessories, kitchen accessories, living accessories, greeting cards, bags, carpets, hats and fashion and she is advising in interior design solutions.
  • Her innovative designs are gaining international interest.
  • Her most recognized designs are the Flokati felt carpets which she invented. Those carpets are easy to clean, biodegradable and single felt pieces can be renewed. Those rugs found acknowledgement through a long number of awards.
  • She recently received FORM, IF PRODUCT DESIGN AWARD GOLD 2004, IF MATERIAL AWARD 2005, Chicago GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2005.
  • She developed a chaiselongue (daybed and carpet) made out of pure felt without any use of foam or filling material. (IF MATERIAL AWARD 2005 and Chicago GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2005).
  • An international boost of recognition found her PLISSEE LAPTOP BAG which doesn´t only look different to the mass of offered bags but also includes characteristics like perfect shock absorption although being made out of one single piece of material. The conscious lack of filling material makes this bag fully biodegradable.
  • She uses materials like historic and innovative fabrics, wood, synthetics, rubber, metal or paper in her designs.
  • Her collections are always developed under the background of raw materials, production, duration (cleaning or repairing) and ecological aspects.
  • She loves minimalism but doesn't avoid pleasures of shapes and precious decorations.
  • She brings structures and 3-dimensionality into the so far known 2-dimensionality (carpets etc.).
  • The difference in her work appears in long term steps of testing and improvement which makes form, function, quality and ecology a simultaneous aspect in design.
  • As a natural consequence a lot of designers regularly visit her website to search for ideas. Although some of her designs were laughed at by some people in the beginning, they turn out to be trendsetting and are copied from companies and designers after a short time.
  • Mary-Ann was one of the first designers working with dyed high quality wool felts. She invented the machine-washable pure new wool felt which was a big step towards quality improvement for the daily use. So far felt could only be dry-cleaned. She first came up with combinations of felt used together with other materials like metal, wood, glass or rubber etc.
  • She prefers making trends instead of following them.

Feltmaking is the magical transformation of a loose pile of wool fibers into a durable, alluring nonwoven fabric.

An ancient process that continues to work its wonder on modern artisans and crafters, feltmaking produces a flannel-like fabric with a tactile appeal like nothing else.

In Uniquely Felt, Christine White, a professional teacher and feltmaker, describes the equipment, explores concepts and theories of felting, and thoroughly covers all felting techniques, including traditional, needle, three-dimensional seamless, nuno, cobweb, carved, and Beede ball.
