Blonde Bombshell Carroll Baker

Carroll Baker was a movie sex symbol, but more importantly, she was a serious dramatic actress! To me, Carroll Baker delivered many compelling performances in her prolific movie career.

In the 1950s and into the 1960s, when talking about blondes and sex symbols in the movies, there was not only Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, Joey Heatherton ... but there was also Carroll Baker!

What you may not know about the talented and beautiful actress Carroll Baker is that she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1725 Vine Street.

She has also written three books: Baby Doll, An Autobiography, published in 1983, and A Roman Tale and To Africa, With Love, both published in 1985.

Carroll Baker was a movie sex symbol, but more importantly, Carroll Baker was a serious dramatic actress. Let's check her out!

An interesting title for her autobiography; i.e. Baby Doll: An Autobiography. If you take a moment to read some of the poignant reviews, you get a good insight into the life she has led. Perhaps she was born too soon?

Did you know this about Carroll Baker? Carroll Baker’s flashy portrayal of a Jean Harlow-type movie star in the 1964 hit The Carpetbaggers brought her a second wave of notoriety and marked the beginning of a tumultuous relationship with the film’s producer, Joseph E. Levine.

Based on her Carpetbaggers performance, Levine began to position Baker to be a movies sex symbol, casting her in the title roles of two 1965 potboilers, Sylvia and Harlow.

The original "Platinum Blonde" sex symbol and American film actress! Say hello to Jean Harlow! Who is/was Jean Harlow? This blonde bombshell surely set the stage for blondes as a sex symbol.

Harlow was a bit of a trailblazer in the debate that blondes are sexier and have more fun!

Why this post? Well, I've written other posts on blonde "sex symbols" such as Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, Joey Heatherton, and Carroll Baker [who played in the Harlow movie about her life].

You can't talk about the blonde bombshells and sex symbols of the 1950s, 1960s or today without mentioning the one and only, original "platinum blonde," Jean Harlow.

I loved what I saw of Jean Harlow through her films. She was feisty, opinionated, and an original who died at much too early an age.

If you know nothing about this American film actress and blonde sex symbol, you owe it to yourself to read one of her books or see one of her movies! There are several excellent books and movies below to pick from!
