Grays Anatomy

Are you familiar with Gray's Anatomy? It probably inspired Grey's Anatomy! Gray's Anatomy? No, it's not Grey's Anatomy, the TV series, but actually THE English-language human anatomy textbook Gray's Anatomy! IMHO, the television series Grey's Anatomy must surely have been inspired by Gray's Anatomy, the textbook! That's my personal opinion and I'm stickin' to it until I find otherwise. What do you think?

I have written a lot about Health and Medical topics. In another article, I've written, Meniscus Tear, I saw some very cool examples of anatomy drawings from Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body.

What's really cool is that you'll find Gray's drawings throughout the internet as his textbook is widely regarded as a classic work on the subject. The book was first published in 1858 while work on his book was continued by others and on November 24, 2004, the 39th British edition was released.

What do you THINK about Grays Anatomy?
Anything to do with Greys Anatomy? Was Grey's Anatomy inspired by Gray's Anatomy?
  1. Yes!
  2. Maybe.
  3. No!

Gray's Anatomy 1858 First Edition
The first edition of Gray's Anatomy covered 750 pages and contained 363 figures.

Anyone perusing the last 10 incarnations of this vigorous old warhorse of medical literature will note that a significant change came about with the 35th in 1973, when the visual character of the book began a veritable transformation.

Since that time, each edition has incrementally added material covering advances in such fields as molecular biology, imaging, computer-assisted and electron microscopy, embryology and immunohistology to encompass new knowledge and provide didactic clarifications.

Henry Gray's original offering of 1858 has taken on the task of providing an overview of the science on which comprehensive understanding of gross anatomy is based in today's biomedical and clinical worlds.

The Anatomist: A True Story of Gray's Anatomy

The classic medical text known as Gray's Anatomy is one of the most famous books ever written.

Now, on the 150th anniversary of its publication, acclaimed science writer and master of narrative nonfiction Bill Hayes has written the fascinating, never-before-told true story of how this seminal volume came to be.

A blend of history, science, culture, and Hayes's own personal experiences, The Anatomist is this author's most accomplished and affecting work to date.

Leadership and Team-Playing i.e. John Maxwell. I have been a fan of John Maxwell books for quite a few years. There isn't another author comparable to him, well except maybe Seth Godin.

John Maxwell books on leadership are definitely some of the best there are. They are must-reads that should be on everyone's reading list.

Whether or not you are in a management position, want to be a better leader, or want to be a better person, YOU simply cannot go wrong reading a book by John Maxwell.

Ah, Make Today Count and get a copy of "The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader" and "The 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player" -- a couple of really great books by John Maxwell.

If you have read the original version, then you'll love this new expanded and updated one.
  2. 25 Ways to Win with People: How to Make Others Feel Like a Million Bucks - A slim companion to Maxwell's bestselling Winning with People, this volume aims to teach readers skills that will help them improve their interpersonal relationships. 3. Make Today Count: The Secret of Your Success Is Determined by Your Daily Agenda - Drawing from the text of the Business Week bestseller Today Matters, this condensed, revised edition boils down John C. Maxwell's 12 daily practices to their very essence, giving maximum impact in minimal time. Readers will learn how to make decisions on important matters and apply those decisions daily to put them on a path to more successful, productive, and fulfilling lives.

The 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player: Becoming the Kind of Person Every Team Wants is another in a long line of titles by John Maxwell aimed at helping people attain their personal and leadership potential in the workplace.

The book is organized into short chapters, each devoted to one of the 17 qualities that Maxwell deems essential to a successful and harmonious workplace, qualities such as competence, discipline, adaptability, commitment, selflessness, and preparedness.

Maxwell's prose reads like a series of sermons, peppered with inspirational stories and quotes from personalities as diverse as Vince Lombardi ("The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender") and Henry Ford ("Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success"). The book is for Maxwell fans and anyone looking for a sensible and formulaic approach to improving their lot, both at work and in life. --Harry C. Edwards

When you come to look back on all that you have done in life, you will get more satisfaction from the pleasure you have brought to other people's lives than you will from the times that you outdid and defeated them." -- Rabbi Harold Kushner

THE BOOK!

The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader: Becoming the Person Others Will Want to Follow - Why do some people consistently inspire others to follow their lead? According to John C. Maxwell, author of 24 books and a regular speaker on the topic, it's the "character qualities" they possess.

In The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader, Maxwell identifies these top traits as character, charisma, commitment, communication, competence, courage, discernment, focus, generosity, initiative, listening, passion, positive attitude, problem-solving, relationships, responsibility, security, self-discipline, servanthood, teachability, and vision--and then defines them in ways that readers can absorb and utilize.

Each is covered in a separate chapter opening with a high-concept definition and continuing with relevant anecdotes, details on its meaning, suggestions for further reflection, and exercises for improvement.

For example, in the section on vision, Maxwell describes how Walt Disney initially developed the theme-park concept after accompanying his daughters to a fun-filled but rather shabby amusement park. He then analyzes how Disney's resultant projects drew on his personal history while meeting other's needs, and explains how readers must "listen to several voices" to develop successful foresight in a similar way. Finally, Maxwell suggests methods to articulate these visions and measure their implementation. --Howard Rothman

  • Yes, I love this book!
  • It's on my must-read list.
  • Nope, don't need a moment of zen.
THE BOOK!

A Review: "There's so much good stuff here that it's hard to figure out where to begin. Reynolds advocates for a departure from the ordinary style of presentation involving PowerPoint. You've all sat through those (or given them)... Pages of slides, chock full of text, gratuitous use of special effects, etc.

Presentation Zen is more about simplicity and storytelling. Your slides should support *you*, the speaker. If someone can get all the information from your slides, why do they need you? Your slides should not overwhelm the audience, but should draw their attention to the point that you are making in your talk.

Couple this approach with the ability to tell stories rather than recite facts, and you can put together presentations that will be appreciated, remembered, and best of all, acted upon."
