My first introduction to the art of William-Adolphe Bouguereau was back in the 1980s in Cleveland, Ohio. The most beautiful heavenly ANGEL ART posters are those by William-Adolphe Bouguereau! Let me introduce you to a few of my favorite art works by this master.

We had taken a Sunday trip to The Cleveland Museum of Art. I saw this huge oil painting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau of a mother and her children as shown here -- it was the most magnificent painting.

My Favorite Art
Without a doubt, this is my favorite work of Bouguereau's! Seeing this work in The Cleveland Museum of Art imprinted a vision upon my brain and soul that I am experiencing each time I think of this master.

Background Info on Bouguereau

William Bouguereau, born in France in 1825, was one of the most successful and popular painters of the second half of the 19th century. His works express perhaps better than any other's the values of classical French academic art: exquisite drawing and masterful perspective, rich coloration, dramatic yet harmonious composition, and classical and realistic subjects masterfully modeled. His technical skill is unquestionable. Yet these very qualities represent much of what the then-new school of Impressionism rebelled against, and Bouguereau's work, dismissed and scorned as academic; fell into near obscurity for many years after his death.

In recent decades, Bouguereau has been rediscovered by art historians, curators, and buyers. Museums display his work and his paintings bring ever-higher prices at auction.

Those who love this artist's work appreciate the tenderness with which he portrayed children and young women, his subtle revelation of personality and mood, his glowing colors, his lovely angels and graceful nudes, and the astonishingly realistic yet delicately transcendent quality of the images he created.

Bouguereau was a disciplined and prolific artist, known to have created over 700 finished paintings in his long lifetime. He painted, sketched, and planned tirelessly and passionately, and was also a devoted teacher.

Among his many achievements, one rarely mentioned is his role in opening the French art academies to women artists. He died in 1905.

This edition includes a chapter entitled 'William Bouguereau's Nymph and Satyr'. It is a detailed discussion of the painting, one of his most significant works, and is written by Kara Lysandra Ross.

Personally, I think that William-Adolphe Bouguereau was a fabulous artist. Ever since I discovered his beautiful painting in The Cleveland Museum of Art in the early 1980s, I have been an art fan of his. It is so great to have affordable art posters of his. Squid Angel : Blessings to YOU! What it meant to be a Squidoo Squid Angel : Blessings to YOU, my dear! Ah, angels! There are heavenly angels. And, now there are Squidoo SquidAngels ... down to earth angels. This is the first instance on Squidoo that I have actually written about my Catholic upbringing in Cleveland, Ohio, and what an impact it had on my spiritual being. You see, it was the nuns and priests that I encountered in elementary and grade school who instilled in me strong Christian beliefs, particularly in Heaven and in Angels! Yes I believe in Heaven and I believe in Angels! It is just part of leading a Spiritual Life, you know?

Then, after my grandparents all passed on it was in Lily Dale, a spiritualist community in Chautauqua County, NY that I had my first spiritual reading. At that time, I was told that there were auras around me of two women; i.e. my grandmothers. They were likened to my particular guardian angels.

Since my early days of schooling to today, I have had a deep spiritual appreciation for angels. I was once again honored to be an active Squid Angel, flapping my heavenly angel wings from October 13, 2009 to January 3, 2010. I was a SquidAngel Emeritus of two separate terms totaling 8.3 months, until I returned to active squid angel duty on March 5, 2012. My first term at Squid Angeling was a double-header, two terms rolled into one, lasting for nearly 6 straight months. It is really something to see how many lensmasters have actually participated in the SquidAngel program at Squidoo. And, how many lensmasters now actually believe in angels too!

You know, being a Squidoo Squid Angel has been a very meaningful and remarkable experience for me -- something I have taken most seriously. An angel in the true spirit and meaning of the word angel. I have opted to serve again as a Squidoo Squid Angel as I take THAT JOB quite seriously, you know? So, if you are tapped to be a Squidoo Squid Angel, wear those wings proudly as you perform your heavenly duties on earth. Show some humility too; be true to yourself. Be the best that you can be.

What a remarkably reflective and inspiring angel! This angel monument pretty accurately captures my feelings as I reflect on what all it has meant to be a Squid Angel. Although I have retired my angel wings, I hope to be returning soon. Do You Believe?

We count ourselves blessed when we have been touched by an angel. Angels can exist in heaven and on earth. If you have been touched by an angel, I'd love to hear your story!

What types of Squid Angels WERE there? 

Squid Angels as Hoverers!

1. To remain floating, suspended, or fluttering in the air: gulls hovering over the waves or angels hovering over Squidoo lenses!
2. To remain or linger in or near a place: hovering around the speaker’s podium.
3. To remain in an uncertain state; waver: hovered between anger and remorse.

As you can probably guess, I go for definition #1! And, being new in my role as a Squid Angel, for my first go-around, I described myself as a ‘hoverer.’ It also comes from my Marketing background and strong need for analytical research. You see, I don’t like to jump to any conclusions but require lots of data and lots of research.

It’s after I acquire plenty of empirical research — look at lots of lenses — that I feel empowered to bless them! No willy nilly, mindless blessings. No tit-for-tat, reciprocal types of blessings. No special group of angels working in a block. Just one solitary squid angel blessing one at a time, worthy lenses.

Here’s such a ‘hovering’ Squid Angel … it’s really ME when I was hard at work as a Squid Angel oh so long ago.

Squid Angels as Buglers!

1. Music: To sound a bugle.
2. To give forth a deep, prolonged sound similar to the bay of a hound.

There are some Squid Angels who will announce their visits and their blessings. Alrightee, I will confess that I have sounded the bugle a couple of times, but I must admit that I found some lenses which warranted a bugle blast!

Squid Angels are Humble!!

MOST, Squid Angels are humble! They understand humility. I'm blonde, but I am humble too! Blessings to you, my dear!

I have only included this one definition, but personally like what it says:

1. Marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit; not arrogant or prideful.

To have been honored with the responsibility of a Squid Angel, means that these select few members have the powers to bless those lenses which are indeed worthy of blessing.

A Hip Squid Angel

Imagine this fashionable and very hip Squid Angel flying in to bless one of YOUR lenses!

1. Yes, we're considering a way to let lensmasters know when their lenses have been blessed or dinged. Right now they don't know unless an Angel tells them. Angels are free to communicate that (or not) in whatever way is most comfortable for them.
2. Every Squid Angel makes a difference. If one Angel blesses a lens, the lens gets a small boost. If several Angels bless it, the boost jumps to a new tier.
3. The idea is not to form a jury and drive a traditional consensus. That would be an entirely different program. Instead, the idea is to empower you as individuals.
4. The Angels group is varied, by design, and I'm betting you'll each browse and bless (or ding) different lenses in a broad range of topics. Then, when diverse opinions from top lensmasters converge naturally in the same place, that's when something really special happens.
5. Angels are not required to give editorial reviews of lenses that are posted in the Angels forum. But if they'd like to, they can.
6. Nope, Angels won't ding lenses that are still under construction.
7. Nope, LensRank doesn't affect your Google traffic or other search engine results.
8. Yep, Angels are allowed to bless a few (not all!) of their own lenses. Hey, they're working hard for everyone else, they deserve the same perk.
9. The coolest thing I've heard today is that Angels are doing so much more than blessing lenses... they're also adding those lenses to StumbleUpon, Delicious, rating them, etc.

Squid Angel Retired

JaguarJulie is a Squid Angel Emeritus. I served a third term from 10/13/09-01/03/10. That's a total of 8.3 months of Squid Angel meaningful service oh so long ago. I returned to active Squid Angel duty on 03/05/12 and served approximately a one year term before the Squid Angel program was retired.

Touched by an Angel

Being touched by an angel in your daily life can be absolutely heavenly! You can count yourself blessed if you have been touched by an angel. There are heavenly angels and then there are earthly angels. From my earliest days in Catholic school I first learned about Heaven and heavenly angels. That set the stage for my journey through a spiritual life.

How appropriate that I settled into the "friendly community" of Squidoo which has put me in touch with earthly angels better known as Squid Angels.

It was a distinct honor and privilege to serve the Squidoo community in the positive role of Squid Angel for two separate terms totaling 8.3 months of "angelic" humble service. Did you know that I returned to Squid Angel active duty on March 5, 2012? Yes, now you may be touched by a squid angel :: me!

Once upon a time, there were a handful of squid angels. You could find those squid angels flying here and there worldwide.

Thanks to the power of Squidoo, you too got to see angels, squid angels, in your daily life. Let's take a moment to stop and reflect on all that angelic activity once upon a time. Blessings to you my dear!

I have personally had a high regard for angels dating back to my grade school days when I attended Our Lady of Angels Catholic school in Cleveland, Ohio. My schooling instilled a deep spiritual belief in angels and in heaven. And, my schooling instilled in me a deep sense of humility.

Why I created this page.
All those years ago when I attended Catholic School on the Westside of Cleveland, Ohio, I literally had no idea that I would be writing about art topics and about heavenly beings.

It's important to know that I was an impressionable child. Having nuns as teachers can be quite something to a child's fresh mind.

You know, in second grade I remember that nun, Sister Mary Francis. Gosh, we had a failure to communicate I think. Looking back at her notes on the backside of my report card, I was concerned. Here it is all these years in the future and I am thinking about that nun! Can you believe? I was misunderstood in second grade.

I remember that nun hitting my knuckles with a ruler in front of the class. And, those times she made me wipe the chalk board. I wonder if she has found my artsy page on angels?

I have always loved angels and angel art. And, I have a finer appreciation for cupid. Cupid's arrow has struck me more than a few times in my illustrious life as a blonde that does it herself.
