Itzchak Tarkay Art

Itzchak Tarkay is the collectible artist and painter who is realistic, abstract, figurative, decorative and known for his colorful female subjects - The remarkable artsy women! I am an art collector / art enthusiast who loves colorful paintings and adores the works of Itzchak Tarkay.

Two by Two by Itzchak Tarkay
A friend who is more "learned" at art collecting actually turned me on to this colorful artist who has achieved strong recognition as a leading representative of a new generation of figurative artists.

The inspirations for Tarkay's work reflect influences from Impressionism, and Post-Impressionism, and color influences of Matisse. His drawing style has a distinct feel of Toulouse-Lautrec I think!

I acquired this artist's ever popular Two by Two seriolithograph in color on paper from a friend in Jacksonville, Florida many years ago. It was this very work of art that helped launch my art collection! Yes, I have this artist's work, but I also have so much more ... and that makes me smile!

Are you a fan of Itzchak Tarkay art?
  1. Yes -- I actually own some of his artwork
  2. Yes -- and I hope to buy something of his
  3. No -- not just yet

Learn about the vast array of Tarkay art from this book, TARKAY: CATALOGUE RAISONNE 1986-1994.

It is the Catalogue Raisonne of the Serigraph Prints 1986-1994.

I personally have a couple of Tarkay art books and get a lot of joy browsing through them from time to time.

What a perfect gift for the art lover you know; or for yourself!

This makes a great coffee table book too.

itzchak tarkay contemplation art
Contemplation

This Tarkay original acrylic is literally the only painting that he has ever done with a black background.

It retails for $44,000.

I had originally found it being offered by Fine Art Enterprises at a reduced price.

I'm not sure if it is still available!!

But, it is a bit out of my price range, for sure.

itzchak tarkay tavern at dusk art

Tavern at Dusk

Tavern at Dusk, an acrylic on board with pastel, shows a somewhat loose, even a bit gross style in its full-figured depictions of tavern-frequenters out for a beer at sundown.

To fully appreciate the colorful and beautifully decorative style of Tarkay's work today, you need to take a look at his early works -- such as this one.

You can see, for one thing, that the faces are not as precise as they are in later works of his.

itzchak tarkay At the Bar
At the Bar

An original acrylic, this is one of the only pieces where the artist actually painted a blonde!

The depiction of people standing at a bar is very rare for Tarkay.

It retails for $40,000.

I had originally found it being offered by Fine Art Enterprises at a reduced price.

I'm not sure if it is still available!!

But, again, it is a bit out of my price range, for sure.

itzchak tarkayi two by two art
Two by Two

Several years ago, I acquired Two by Two from our friend, THE art collector ... he's a bit more seriously into art collecting than I am.

Two by Two, seriolithograph in color on paper. Signed in the plate. From the edition of 9500.

It is from 2000 and measures 16-1/4 inches x 20-1/2 inches.

It came with a certificate of authenticity from and a registration number Park West Gallery.

itzchak tarkay Marie and Susie
Marie and Susie

Of the art that I collect, I do have a few art prints such as this one. This particular Tarkay art print is quite popular.

Marie and Susie is rather large at 36 inches x 26 inches, so I haven't framed it as yet as that frame might cost $500.

In addition, I've run out of wall space for any more art ... unless we add an extension to the house or move into a bigger home!

Beware of imitators!
Be sure to get a
Certificate of Authenticity
as there are "imitators"
of Tarkay's artwork.

Background Info on Bouguereau

William Bouguereau, born in France in 1825, was one of the most successful and popular painters of the second half of the 19th century. His works express perhaps better than any other's the values of classical French academic art: exquisite drawing and masterful perspective, rich coloration, dramatic yet harmonious composition, and classical and realistic subjects masterfully modeled. His technical skill is unquestionable. Yet these very qualities represent much of what the then-new school of Impressionism rebelled against, and Bouguereau's work, dismissed and scorned as academic; fell into near obscurity for many years after his death.

In recent decades, Bouguereau has been rediscovered by art historians, curators, and buyers. Museums display his work and his paintings bring ever-higher prices at auction.

Those who love this artist's work appreciate the tenderness with which he portrayed children and young women, his subtle revelation of personality and mood, his glowing colors, his lovely angels and graceful nudes, and the astonishingly realistic yet delicately transcendent quality of the images he created.

Bouguereau was a disciplined and prolific artist, known to have created over 700 finished paintings in his long lifetime. He painted, sketched, and planned tirelessly and passionately, and was also a devoted teacher.

Among his many achievements, one rarely mentioned is his role in opening the French art academies to women artists. He died in 1905.

William Bouguereau: His Life and Works. Originally published as part of the two-volume set, now available for the first time as a single volume.

This edition includes a chapter entitled 'William Bouguereau's Nymph and Satyr'. It is a detailed discussion of the painting, one of his most significant works, and is written by Kara Lysandra Ross.

A beautifully illustrated and comprehensive biography of French academic painter William Bouguereau.

It explores the relevance of his life and work during a period which embodied the Classical Tradition.

Thanks for visiting!

Personally, I think that William-Adolphe Bouguereau was a fabulous artist. Ever since I discovered his beautiful painting in The Cleveland Museum of Art in the early 1980s, I have been an art fan of his. It is so great to have affordable art posters of his. Love him or own some of his work? Well, let us hear about it!

Bristlecone Pine Trees

Bristlecone pines, Methuselah and his old colleagues! Old trees have fascinated people of all times, particularly bristlecone pine trees. In many native cultures old trees had an important role in religious rites. They are a kind of universal symbol all over the world.

pine tree provence landscape by editionha
Until today old, majestic trees like the bristlecone pine trees are understood as a symbol for life, the eternal forces of nature, longevity and the capability to survive hardship.

Old trees and forests have become a symbol for ecological balance too. They remember us to take care about our planet in a responsible way.

Read here about the oldest trees on earth, their story of discovery by Dr. Edmund Schulman, the oldest bristlecone pine called Methuselah in the White Mountains of north western California and what we might learn from these ancient trees.

A special thank you to my friend, fellow lensmaster and artist Martin aka editionh for turning me on to bristlecone pine trees and Methuselah in such a beautiful manner! What a beautiful story. Thank you Martin!

  1. Yes, I knew about Methuselah and the Bristlecone Pine Trees too!
  2. I didn't know too much about Methuselah.
  3. Well, I am just hearing about Methuselah today!

Learn more fascinating information about the bristlecone and foxtail pines trees that thrive in a harsh environment and live thousands of years with a special focus on Great Basin bristlecone pine, the oldest tree species on earth.

The Bristlecone Book: A Natural History of the World's Oldest Trees

In this extraordinary journey into the world of bristlecones, author Ronald Lanner exposes the trees inner workings, taking apart a pine to examine bark, buds, needles, cones, roots, and wood.

He follows a tree's lifespan from seedling to great old age, presenting a new interpretation of stages of growth.

Discovery of Dr. Edmund Schulman
The great age of bristlecone pines was dicovered by Dr. Edmund Schulman.

It is the merit of Dr. Schulman having discovered and documented the great age of the bristlecone pines in the arid mountains of the Great Basin, from Colorado to California. Tragically Dr. Schulman died from heart attack at age of 49 just before his findings where published in 1958 and gained worldwide recognition.

Methuselah, the Oldest Tree on Earth
Bristlecone pines in the Sierra Nevada seem to be the oldest trees on our planet. Methuselah the oldest tree on earth is 4,734 years old. The exact location is kept secret, but it is known that Methuselah is one of those magnificent bristlecone pines that grow very slowly for thousands of years at about 10 000 feet in the the White Mountains of northwestern California.

Survival Strategies of the Bristlecone Pine
To live long die slowly! The exploration of the ecology of the bristlecone pine might be useful to answer the question of longevity on this planet in general. Some strategies of the Bristlecone pine are well known and used often by other plants, for example to avoid competition by growing on sites where no other plant can grow.

In addition bristlecone pines grow very slowly, their demand for water and nutrition is minimized.

The most fascinating fact however is that the longevity of the bristlecone pine seems to be based on the ability to die slowly. That sounds paradox, but this obviously is a successful way to survive in very difficult climate.

Those parts of the trees which are exposed to strong winds, frost in winter and heat in summer, slowly die, but the tree manages to keep some bark, often only a thin stripe in protected areas alive to serve the living functions over hundreds and thousands of years.

The dead parts form a kind of protection shield against wind, temperature extremes and erosion. Under this protection a part of the tree can continue to live.

Botanical Facts
Bristlecone Pines, also called Great Basin bristlecone pines or intermountain bristlecone pines, are trees of the species Pinus aristata Engelmann var. longaeva (D.K. Bailey) Little.

This species has 5 needles in a bundle. Apart from their typical appearance they can be discerned from other 5 needle species by examining their needles of the previous year. Bristlecone pines keep their needle sheaths for more than a year , whereas all others lose them within the year of growth.

The information on the dimensions of adult trees vary a great deal: height 6 -16 meters and a diameter of from 2 up to 8 meters. The biotope are mountain ranges between 2000 -3500 meters altitude. The trees grow in full sunlight and usually have no competitiors in their biotope. The name giving seed cone shows many bristles at the end of the scales that hold the seed. The cones mature within 1-2 years.

Amedeo Modigliani

Amedeo Modigliani the Artist. A misunderstood Italian Artist of Jewish descent. Amedeo Modigliani lived a somewhat bohemian life of an artist and painter in the early 1900s in France. I have presented a fairly comprehensive look at the man and the artist.

Amedeo Modigliani suffered from alcoholism and died at 35 from tubercular meningitis after suffering from a variety of illnesses throughout his life. Amedeo Modigliani was known for his paintings and sculpture: his art was unique and idiosyncratic. And, perhaps he and his art have been slightly misunderstood.

I've seen the movie, Modigliani starring Andy Garcia for a second time. Pictured here is the Death Mask of Amedeo Modigliani by Jacques Lipchitz. The movie depicts the making of this death mask.

I highly recommend this movie to any art enthusiast seeking to appreciate and know more about Amedeo Modigliani! Amedeo Modigliani : The Artist, the Man and the Myth!

Photo Credit: The Death Mask of Amedeo Modigliani by Jacques Lipchitz.

Modigliani - The Movie!

Andy Garcia stars as the painter Modigliani, an Italian Jew, has fallen in love with Jeanne, a beautiful Catholic girl. The couple has an illegitimate child, and Jeanne's bigoted parents send the baby to a faraway convent to be raised by nuns.

Modigliani is distraught and needs money to rescue and raise his child. The answer arrives in Paris' annual art competition. Prize money and a guaranteed career await the winner.

Modigliani and his dearest friend and rival Picasso believe that competitions are beneath true artists like themselves, but with the welfare of his child on the line, Modigliani signs up. Picasso follows suit and soon Paris is aflutter with excitement over the outcome. --Modigliani

Amedeo Modigliani achieved fame after his death! Modigliani died penniless and destitute-managing only one solo exhibition in his life and giving his work away in exchange for meals in restaurants. Since his death his reputation has soared. Nine novels, a play, a documentary and three feature films have been devoted to his life.

Beatrice Hastings on Amedeo Modigliani

In June of 1914, he met the talented and eccentric English woman, Beatrice Hastings, who had been a circus artist, a journalist, a poetess, a traveler, an art critic.

Later she would write of him:

A complex character. A swine and a pearl. Met him in 1914 at a creamerie. I sat opposite him. Hashish and brandy. Not at all impressed. Didn’t know who he was. He looked ugly, ferocious and greedy.

Met him again at the Cafe Rotonde. He was shaved and charming. Raised his cap with a pretty gesture, blushed and asked me to come and see his work. And I went. He always had a book in his pocket. Lautrémont's Maldoror. The first oil painting was of Kisling. He had no respect for anyone except Picasso and Max Jacob. Detested Cocteau. Never completed anything good under the influence of hashish.

Modigliani Legend and Legacy

  • Modigliani died penniless and destitute-managing only one solo exhibition in his life and giving his work away in exchange for meals in restaurants. Since his death his reputation has soared. Nine novels, a play, a documentary and three feature films have been devoted to his life.
  • Modigliani's sister in Florence adopted their 15-month old daughter, Jeanne (1918-1984).
  • As an adult, Jeanne wrote a biography of her father titled, Modigliani: Man and Myth.
  • Two films have been made about Modigliani; in 1958 Jacques Becker directed Les Amants de Montparnasse and in 2004 the film Modigliani by Michael Davis starred Andy Garcia as Modigliani.

Modigliani Early Life
  • Amedeo's birth saved the family from certain ruin, as, according to an ancient law, creditors could not seize the bed of a pregnant woman or a mother with a newborn child.
  • Beset with health problems after an attack of pleurisy when he was about eleven, a few years later he developed a case of typhoid fever. Then when he was roughly sixteen he was taken ill with pleurisy again, and it was then that he contracted the tuberculosis which was to eventually claim his life.
  • His mother was, in many ways, instrumental in his ability to pursue art as a vocation. When he was eleven years of age, she had noted in her diary that:

The child's character is still so unformed that I cannot say what I think of it. He behaves like a spoiled child, but he does not lack intelligence. We shall have to wait and see what is inside this chrysalis. Perhaps an artist?

Modigliani Art Student
  • Modigliani is known to have drawn and painted from a very early age, and thought himself already a painter, his mother wrote, even before beginning formal studies.
  • At the age of fourteen, while sick with the typhoid fever, he raved in his delirium that he wanted, above all else, to see the paintings in the Palazzo Pitti and the Uffizi in Florence.
  • His mother promised that she would take him to Florence herself, the moment he was recovered. Not only did she fulfil this promise, but she also undertook to enroll him with the best painting master in Livorno, Guglielmo Micheli.

Modigliani - Micheli and the Macchiaioli
  • Modigliani worked in Micheli's Art School from 1898 to 1900. Here his earliest formal artistic instruction took place in an atmosphere deeply steeped in a study of the styles and themes of nineteenth-century Italian art.
  • In his earliest Parisian work, traces of this influence, and that of his studies of Renaissance art, can still be seen: artists such as Giovanni Boldini figure just as much in this nascent work as do those of Toulouse-Lautrec.
  • In 1901, whilst in Rome, Modigliani admired the work of Domenico Morelli, a painter of melodramatic Biblical studies and scenes from great literature. It is ironic that he should be so struck by Morelli, as this painter had served as an inspiration for a group of iconoclasts who went by the title, the Macchiaioli (from macchia-"dash of colour", or, more derogatively, "stain"), and Modigliani had already been exposed to the influences of the Macchiaioli.
  • Despite his rejection of the Macchiaioli approach, Modigliani nonetheless found favour with his teacher, who referred to him as "Superman", a pet name reflecting the fact that Modigliani was not only quite adept at his art, but also that he regularly quoted from Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra.
  • In 1902, Modigliani continued what was to be a life-long infatuation with life drawing, enrolling in the Accademia di Belle Arti (Scuola Libera di Nudo, or Free School of Nude Studies) in Florence. A year later while still suffering from tuberculosis, he moved to Venice, where he registered to study at the Istituto di Belle Arti.
  • It is in Venice that he first smoked hashish and, rather than studying, began to spend time frequenting disreputable parts of the city. The impact of these lifestyle choices upon his developing artistic style is open to conjecture, although these choices do seem to be more than simple teenage rebellion, or the cliched hedonism and bohemianism that was almost expected of artists of the time; his pursuit of the seedier side of life appears to have roots in his appreciation of radical philosophies, such as those of Nietzsche.

Modigliani Early Literary Influences

  • He continued to read and be influenced through his art studies by the writings of Nietzsche, Baudelaire, Carducci, Comte de Lautréamont, and others, and developed the belief that the only route to true creativity was through defiance and disorder.
  • The work of Lautréamont was equally influential at this time. This doomed poet's Les Chants de Maldoror became the seminal work for the Parisian Surrealists of Modigliani's generation, and the book became Modigliani's favourite to the extent that he learnt it by heart.
  • Baudelaire and D'Annunzio similarly appealed to the young artist, with their interest in corrupted beauty, and the expression of that insight through Symbolist imagery.
Dear friend, I write to pour myself out to you and to affirm myself to myself.

I am the prey of great powers that surge forth and then disintegrate...

A bourgeois told me today - insulted me - that I or at least my brain was lazy. It did me good. I should like such a warning every morning upon awakening: but they cannot understand us nor can they understand life.

Portrait of Paul Alexandre
Against a Green Background: 1909 - Oil on canvas. 100 x 81 cm. Private collection.

Dr. Paul Alexandre

Dr. Paul Alexandre, a medical doctor, not much older than Modigliani. Dr. Alexandre together with his brother, Jean, set up a free house for artists in Paris. The doctor was fascinated by Modigliani’s paintings and began to support the Italian as well as he could. He bought his drawings and paintings and arranged for portrait commissions.

He collected up to 25 paintings and 450 drawings by Modigliani, which were published only in 1990. In 1914, Dr. Alexandre went to the army and had to stop his support of the artists.

Modigliani in Paris
  • In 1906 Modigliani moved to Paris, then the focal point of the avant-garde. His arrival at the epicentre of artistic experimentation coincided with the arrival of two other foreigners who were also to leave their marks upon the art world: Gino Severini and Juan Gris.
  • He settled in Le Bateau-Lavoir, a commune for penniless artists in Montmartre, renting himself a studio in Rue Caulaincourt. He soon made efforts to assume the guise of the bohemian artist, but, even in his brown corduroys, scarlet scarf and large black hat, he continued to appear as if he were slumming it, having fallen upon harder times.
  • He is noted to have commented, upon meeting Picasso who, at the time, was wearing his trademark workmen's clothes, that even though the man was a genius, that did not excuse his uncouth appearance.
  • Within a year of arriving in Paris, however, his demeanour and reputation had changed dramatically. He transformed himself from a dapper academician artist into a sort of prince of vagabonds.
  • Modigliani's behavior stood out even in these Bohemian surroundings: he carried on frequent affairs, drank heavily, and used absinthe and hashish. While drunk, he would sometimes strip himself naked at social gatherings. He became the epitome of the tragic artist, creating a posthumous legend almost as well-known as that of Vincent van Gogh.
  • He was first influenced by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, but around 1907 he became fascinated with the work of Paul Cézanne. Eventually he developed his own unique style, one that cannot be adequately categorized with other artists.
  • He met the first serious love of his life, Russian poet Anna Akhmatova, in 1910, when he was 26. They had studios in the same building, and although 21-year-old Anna was recently married, they began an affair. She embodied Modigliani's aesthetic ideal and the pair became engrossed in each other. After a year, however, Anna returned to her husband.
Portrait of Juan Gris: 1915
Oil on canvas. 55.5 x 38 cm. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

Juan Gris (1887-1927), pseudonim of JosVictoriano Gonzez, Spanish painter, born in Madrid. In 1906 he came to Paris, where he associated with Picasso and Matisse and became one of the most logical and consistent exponents of synthetic Cubism.

In 1912, he exhibited with the Cubists in the Section d’Or exhibition in Paris, and in 1920 at the Salon des Indendants. He settled at Boulogne and in 1923 designed the dor for three Diaghilev’s ballet productions. He also worked as a book illustrator.

Modigliani and Sculpture

  • Soon he was back in Paris, this time renting a studio in Montparnasse. He originally saw himself as a sculptor rather than a painter, and was encouraged to continue after Paul Guillaume, an ambitious young art dealer, took an interest in his work and introduced him to sculptor Constantin Brancusi.
  • Although a series of Modigliani's sculptures were exhibited in the Salon d'Automne of 1912, by 1914 he abandoned sculpting and focused solely on his painting.
  • In Modigliani's art, there is evidence of the influence of primitive art from Africa and Cambodia which he may have seen in the Musée de l'Homme, but his stylizations are just as likely to have been the result of his being surrounded by Medieval sculpture during his studies in Northern Italy.

Anna (or Hanka) Zborovska, his wife. They met Modigliani in 1916 and supported him to the end of his life. Modigliani painted them several times.

Modigliani and Jeanne Hebuterne

  • In the summer of 1917, the Russian sculptor Chana Orloff introduced him to a beautiful 19-year-old art student named Jeanne Hébuterne who had posed for Tsuguharu Foujita.
  • From a conservative bourgeois background, Hébuterne was renounced by her devout Roman Catholic family for her liaison with the painter, whom they saw as little more than a debauched derelict, and, worse yet, a Jew.
  • On December 3, 1917, Modigliani's first one-man exhibition opened at the Berthe Weill Gallery. The chief of the Paris police was scandalized by Modigliani's nudes and forced him to close the exhibition within a few hours after its opening.
  • After he and Hébuterne moved to Nice, she became pregnant and on November 29, 1918 gave birth to a daughter whom they named Jeanne (1918-1984).

Modigliani in Nice

  • During a trip to Nice, conceived and organized by Leopold Zborovski, Modigliani, Foujita and other artists tried to sell their works to rich tourists. Modigliani managed to sell a few pictures but only for a few francs each.
  • Despite this, during this time he produced most of the paintings that later became his most popular and valued works.
  • In May of 1919 he returned to Paris, where, with Hébuterne and their daughter, he rented an apartment in the rue de la Grande Chaumière. While there, both Jeanne Hébuterne and Amedeo Modigliani painted portraits of each other, and of themselves.

Modigliani Tragic Death

  • In 1920, after not hearing from him for several days, his downstairs neighbor checked on the family and found Modigliani in bed delirious and holding onto Hébuterne who was nearly nine months pregnant. They summoned a doctor, but little could be done because Modigliani was dying of the then-incurable disease tubercular meningitis.
  • Modigliani died on January 24, 1920. There was an enormous funeral, attended by many from the artistic communities in Montmartre and Montparnasse. In the movie with Andy Garcia, Modigliani was first beaten after leaving a local cafe and shown to have died later.
  • Hébuterne was taken to her parents' home, where, inconsolable, she threw herself out of a fifth-floor window two days after Modigliani's death, killing herself and her unborn child.
  • Modigliani was interred in Père Lachaise Cemetery. Hébuterne was buried at the Cimetière de Bagneux near Paris, and it was not until 1930 that her embittered family allowed her body to be moved to rest beside Modigliani.

Modigliani: Beyond the Myth
May 21, 2004 - September 19, 2004. The Jewish Museum presents the first major exhibition of Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) in New York since his 1951 retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art.

An anomaly among the many foreign Jewish artists who lived in Paris during the early 1900s, Modigliani remained independent of any movement or style, and was known primarily for his reclining nudes and portraits with elegantly elongated features. Modigliani: Beyond the Myth shows the full range of the artist's oeuvre - painting, drawing and sculpture - in an effort to reevaluate his position within the development of twentieth-century European modernism.

Modigliani and His Models
Amedeo Modigliani painted people. In many ways this concise statement sums up the artist's entire output during his short career in Paris in the first two decades of the twentieth century. No other modern artist concentrated so absolutely on the representation of people.

A bit of background on Falbo

Anthony Falbo was born and raised in Flint Michigan. His fascination with color and paint began at a very young age when he began to painted his first oil painting. Studying some of the great masters work, Anthony was fascinated with Rembrandt. Learning about light and shadows in Rembrandts work gave Anthony a foundation to stride for.

Anthony worked many jobs after graduating from school, getting married and raising a family. After many years Anthony decided to pursue his first calling as an artist.

Working 19 years now as a full time artist, Anthony feels he is still at the beginning of creating his finest works.

Working in many different styles gives Anthony more opportunities to express himself and get his point across. Anthony states that he works this way to keep himself from getting burned out, and that he likes to reach out to all people who love different forms of art. He is best known for his Light And Dark series, Cubestraction Series, Genesis, and Impressionist series.

My Falbo Art! Cubestraction Limited Edition Art
I am naturally drawn to this style - it fits with my other work by this artist. And, it is like having an affordable Picasso-inspired piece!

China Lady - Artist Proof - AP1/1
anthony falbo china lady artwork framed owned by jaguarjulie
China Lady by Anthony Falbo
China Lady is from the series “Cubestraction.” It is an original limited edition print that I acquired quite a few years ago.

I saw this art on eBay and placed my bid. Well, soon it turned into a bidding war and my final winning bid was much higher than it should have been.

I reached out to the artist and mentioned how interesting the bidding had been. He got back to me and asked if I would be willing to try an artist’s proof on some new paper stock that he was trying. I said, “Yes.” And was delighted to see the much bigger art print.

China Lady hangs in a prominent position in my front foyer.

A Cat Named Picasso - Giclee Limited Edition Print - 1/395
anthony falbo art a cat named picasso
A Cat Named Picasso by Anthony Falbo
This is another of my all-time favorites from this artist! It is called “A Cat Named Picasso” is also from the series “Cubestraction.”

It is an original giclee limited edition print.

Previously, this cat art was hanging in my hot pink bathroom because that was the last available wall space. Today, I am happy to say that this art has found a new spot in my spare bedroom. ’ve got a really bright and fresh green on the walls and that offsets the colorful art quite nicely.

I’ve also got another bit of cat art in that room; it’s Cat in a Mask.

Daisies and Tulips - Limited Edition Print - 23/200
anthony falbo art daisies and tulips
Daisies and Tulips
by Anthony Falbo
I simply adore this art! It is from the “Cubestraction” series and is an original limited edition art print.

This delightful work was previously hanging in my home office, but today it finds its place in my front art sitting room.

The walls of that room are painted in a deep eggplant-like purple called Forget-Me-Not.

It really makes a difference how you present this type of art as a purple wall makes all the colors pop.

Opening Nite - Limited Edition Print - 24/195
anthony falbo art opening nite
Opening Nite
by Anthony Falbo
You might have guessed that this is from the same series as the other work I’ve presented. It is a “Cubestraction.”

This original limited edition art print is now hanging next to my bed in my master bedroom. Those walls are painted a really bright sunny yellow color.

This work caught my eye because it features ballerinas.

As a child, my sister and I studied ballet along with other dance styles.

I guess you could say that I felt a connection to this work.

Touched by an Angel

Being touched by an angel in your daily life can be absolutely heavenly! You can count yourself blessed if you have been touched by an angel. There are heavenly angels and then there are earthly angels. From my earliest days in Catholic school I first learned about Heaven and heavenly angels. That set the stage for my journey through a spiritual life.

How appropriate that I settled into the "friendly community" of Squidoo which has put me in touch with earthly angels better known as Squid Angels.

It was a distinct honor and privilege to serve the Squidoo community in the positive role of Squid Angel for two separate terms totaling 8.3 months of "angelic" humble service. Did you know that I returned to Squid Angel active duty on March 5, 2012? Yes, now you may be touched by a squid angel :: me!

Once upon a time, there were a handful of squid angels. You could find those squid angels flying here and there worldwide.

Thanks to the power of Squidoo, you too got to see angels, squid angels, in your daily life. Let's take a moment to stop and reflect on all that angelic activity once upon a time. Blessings to you my dear!

Have YOU Been Touched by an Angel?
Please take a moment to cast thy vote! Have you been blessed by an angel?
  • I am touched by an angel daily!
  • I have been touched by a heavenly angel.
  • I have been touched by a Squid Angel no less!
  • I was a Squid Angel and have been touched.
  • I am agnostic and do not believe in angels.

"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." -- The Bible

An Angel Poem
Someone is Calling YOU an Angel by Henry Rollins - With a slight edit to suit our angelic audience
Somewhere someone is thinking of you.
Someone is calling you an angel.
This person is using celestial colors to paint your image.
Someone is making you into a  vision
So beautiful that it can only live in the mind.
Someone is thinking of the way your breath
Escapes your lips when you are touched.
How your eyes close and your jaw tightens with concentration
As you give pleasure a home.
These thoughts are saving a life somewhere right now.
Someone is calling out to you silently and

You are answering without even being there.
So crystalline. So pure.
Such life saving power when you smile.
You will never know how you have cauterized my wounds.
So sad that we will never touch.
How it hurts me to know that I will never
Be able to give you everything I have.
–by Henry Rollins

"Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared." --The Bible

Touched by an Angel -- Heavenly Poetry by Maya Angelou
Such a heavenly angel poem along with a reading!

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.
–by Maya Angelou

Reach For the Stars!

I will walk with you … believe you me, I will walk with you!

Blessings to YOU my dear!
I consider myself blessed each and every day. I believe my grandmother Julia Nagy is there by my side as a heavenly angel, guiding me in my daily journey on this earth! Have you been touched by an angel? I know we were often blessed by squid angels on the platform Squidoo. But, what about out there in life?

Important Photo Credit: Straight from the Closeup of a Grevys Zebra's Mouth.
It is a tongue-in-cheek focus on the mouths of animals and what they might be saying. Surely you have heard the time-honored expression of "putting words in my mouth." Yes?

Well, today we are going to have a little fun exercise with the caption me photographs from the animal kingdom. See how well you do with "putting words in my mouth(s)" i.e. the mouths of inquisitive animals. What would these animals and critters have to say? Putting words in their mouths! If we could talk to the animals, what would they say?

We've featured such animals as the Camel, Cow, Elephant Seal, Gecko, Giant Squid, Hippo, Horse, Lion, Shark, Snake, Tiger, and Zebra, oh my!

Feel free to exercise your sense of humor and creativity and have a little fun putting your words into my mouth(s), you know? Hey, the objective, after all, is to have a little fun with the captions. Don't be shy about "putting words in my mouth(s)!" HEY! Kiss me, I'm IRISH. Thanks for playing along!

Today's guest is Grevys Zebra Mouth Photographic Print by Tim Laman. Ah!

Pick your favorite mouth opportunity -- don't let this picture scare you away! That jaguar is tranquilized!!!

PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH(S)!
Follow along as we share some pretty exciting animal posters showing God's creatures with their mouths open. What do you think they are saying? Why not share your thoughts. Here we go ...

A GIANT Squid no less!
You know we have to have a giant squid!
  1. Ah, may I say that you are indubitably tentacular my dear!
  2. I tried out for the part of the Squidoo Squid. They said to come back when I'm orange.
  3. Ah, this doesn't scare me! I eat giant squid for dinner!
  4. How about a little tongue?
  5. Is that all we're getting for supper?

"Giant squid can grow to a tremendous size. Recent estimates put the maximum size at 13 metres (43 ft) for females and 10 metres (33 ft) for males from caudal fin to the tip of the two long tentacles. The mantle is about 2 metres (6.6 ft) long (more for females, less for males), and the length of the squid excluding its tentacles is about 5 metres (16 ft)." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Camel Camel
OMG, what a mouth I say!
  1. I wanted you to tie a string around my loose tooth and pull, not my whole jaw!
  2. I can stop traffic with my breath!
  3. Looks like my Irish mate Dennis.
  4. A dental hygienist's nightmare.

"The average life expectancy of a camel is 40 to 50 years. A fully grown adult camel stands 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) at the shoulder and 2.15 m (7 ft 1 in) at the hump. The hump rises about 30 inches (76.20 cm) out of its body. Camels can run at up to 65 km/h (40 mph) in short bursts and sustain speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph)." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Cow Wow!
Now that is one heck of a tongue!
  1. Personally, I'm really NOT into giving tongue!
  2. For Gods sake, pick it, lick it, roll it and flick it.
  3. Not there. A little more to the right.
  4. Just come a little closer.
  5. How about a lot of tongue?
  6. Hm, you taste good!
  7. Good to the last drop.

"An onomatopoeic term for one of the commonest sounds made by cattle is "moo", and this sound is also called lowing. There are a number of other sounds made by cattle, including calves bawling, and bulls bellowing. The bullroarer makes a sound similar to a territorial call made by bulls." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Elephant Seal
They call it elephant for a reason!
  1. Ah, let's see -- seal-ed with a kiss?
  2. This is so boring.
  3. Toss me a fish someone.
  4. I can too put my whole fin in my mouth, watch this!
  5. Oh Solo Mio.

"Elephant seals take their name from the large proboscis of the adult males (bulls) which resembles an elephant's trunk. The bull's proboscis is used in producing extraordinarily loud roaring noises, especially during the mating season. More importantly, however, the nose acts as a sort of rebreather, filled with cavities designed to reabsorb moisture from the animals' exhalations." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Gecko Anyone?
We appreciate this celebrity taking time to appear today!
  1. Er, hello? Can YOU hear me now?
  2. Those eyes have seen a lot of love.
  3. I don't like to put too much effort into finding lunch. I like to sit back and wait for it to find me.
  4. Really! You don't say. REALLY!

"Mourning gecko, originally an East Asian and Pacific species, Lepidodactylus lugubris is equally at home in the wild as in residential neighborhoods. Found in Hawaii, it may have been an early Polynesian introduction. A parthenogenic species. There is a report from Hawaii of someone having seen a larger gecko of this type eating a smaller one (or rather, running away from view with a smaller gecko halfway out of its mouth) on three or more occasions." Hey, we need a second opinion on that!!! --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Hammy Hippo
Hippo take two -- what a big mouth?
  1. See that one way in the back? I can't seem to brush that one real good, no matter how hard I try.
  2. Did you know I have a big mouth?
  3. I saw a crocodile today, and it was thiiiiiis big!
  4. Don't forget the fruitgums Mum
  5. OMG!

"The hippopotamus is recognizable by its barrel-shaped torso, enormous mouth and teeth, nearly-hairless body, stubby legs and tremendous size. It is the third-largest land mammal by weight (between 1-1/2 and 3-1/2 tons), behind the white rhinoceros (1-1/2 to 4 tons) and elephants (3 to 7 tons)." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Horse of Course!
Heard the expression about having "horse teeth?"
  1. 13 root canals and I can prove it.
  2. Can you spare a toothbrush?
  3. I told you I don't feel like taking you for a ride!
  4. Shut up! I am not a jackass! You're a jackass!
  5. YEEHAW!
  6. Noooooooooooooooooo (read like the a slow motion vid)

"A 450-kilogram (990 lb) horse will eat 7 to 11 kilograms (15 to 24 lb) of food per day and, under normal use, drink 38 litres (8.4 imp gal; 10 US gal) to 45 litres (9.9 imp gal; 12 US gal) of water. Horses are not ruminants, so they have only one stomach, like humans, but unlike humans, they can also digest cellulose from grasses due to the presence of a 'hind gut' called the cecum, or 'water gut', which food goes through before reaching the large intestine." --courtesy of WIkipedia.

Lion's Pride
Whatever he wants to say; wherever he wants to sit!
  1. Sorry honey; not tonight. I have a headache.
  2. It's hard work sitting here looking good while the lionesses get my dinner.
  3. Yeah, yeah, babe, I get it.
  4. Ugh. Cat food breath. Where's my tic tacs?
  5. O' Sole Mio
  6. It's Monday again? I hate to go to work.

"Most lions now live in eastern and southern Africa, and their numbers there are rapidly decreasing, with an estimated 30-50 percent decline over the last two decades. Currently, estimates of the African lion population range between 16,500 and 47,000 living in the wild in 2002-2004, down from early 1990s estimates that ranged as high as 100,000 and perhaps 400,000 in 1950." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Shark!!!!!!
Wouldn't want to mess with this guy! Oh No!
  1. Hey, I've got a tiger in my tank! ;)
  2. My dentist says I have lovely teeth.
  3. Shark! Shark! Shark! Shark! Shark! --did ya see THAT commercial?
  4. Hi! Whatcha doin'? (works best read slowly and drawn out)
  5. Works great for screening out the big stuff.

"Their needle-like teeth are highly adapted for impaling fish, their main prey. Their teeth, are long, narrow, and very sharp with smooth edges, with one and on occasion two small spurs 'denticles' on either side of the jaw." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Snake!!!
Wonder why they call me a parrot snake?
  1. Sssh I lisp.
  2. Hey, polly want a cracker?
  3. I go back to the dentist next week to pick up my dentures.
  4. Hey, anybody seen my dentures?

"Leptophis ahaetulla, the Lora or Parrot Snake is a snake found in northern South America and Trinidad and Tobago. It feeds on lizards, frogs and small birds." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Zebras Rock!
Ah, a mouth a mother can love!
  1. Oo Oo! That tastes really bad!
  2. Come on baby, give a kiss.
  3. Pucker up, Baby. This one's for you.
  4. You must stand in a straight stripe
  5. Cheese!

"Zebras communicate with each other with high pitched barks and whinnying. Grevy's zebras make mule-like brays. A zebra's ears signify its mood. When a zebra is in a calm, tense or friendly mood, its ears stand erect. When it is frightened, its ears are pushed forward. When angry, the ears are pulled backward.

When surveying an area for predators, zebras will stand in an alert posture; with ears erect, head held high, and staring. When tense they will also snort. When a predator is spotted or sensed, a zebra will bark (or bray) loudly." --courtesy of Wikipedia.

Kate Knight Flower Art

Flower art prints by Kate Knight are just the ticket. Add a little art to your walls with Kate Knight flower art prints. Decorate your walls artistically!

These are available in a variety of colors and shapes.

You will find that her art is quite bold and beautiful with a bit of a retro, vintage appeal. I love her concept of color and style.

Kate Knight's flower art reminds me of the wallpaper we had when I was a child.

In this particular art print, I love the background color. It rather reminds me of Mill Springs Blue by Sherwin-Williams. That's the color I have on my garage walls. I think brown and blue complement each other quite nicely. Plus, I truly love large flower blossoms!

FLOWER POWER!

My Confession : I Truly Adore Kate Knight Flower Art. She uses colors that are quite captivating!

"What I love about the flowers of Kate Knight is the boldness and conviction! Kate's use of colors is quite captivating.

She employs such a bold use of background colors to offset the artistic flowers. It harkens back to vintage wallpapers of the 1950s. We actually had some wallpaper that reminds me of her artistic floral style."

Welcome to the beautiful floral directory of Flower Power POW!!! And POW it is for all the power that is wrapped up in flowers. I have loving memories of flowers from childhood strolling through my grandparents immaculate and inspiring gardens. My oh my could grandpa ever cultivate a colorful garden. Being lucky enough to grow up in the Cleveland, Ohio area, we also got to see some of the most beautiful professional gardens. Usually on a Sunday, we might head downtown Cleveland and visit the Art Museum. I think flowers and the art of flowers should be part of a child's education. It sets the stage for art appreciation and nature appreciation later in life.

Thanks for dropping by today to check out the beautiful Shirley Novak Flower Art. I hope you enjoyed your visit to this flower garden.

Now, prepare yourself for a stroll through other flower gardens! Welcome to the beautiful floral directory of Flower Power POW!!!
