designed by Frances Smersh
Take a hard look at concrete jewelry and you will love it! Well over one year ago, I became acquainted with concrete jewelry for the first time. I was browsing The Artful Home and came across the jewelry of Frances Smersh. I was honestly amazed when I saw the beautiful detail that can be achieved from using concrete.

Take the item pictured here! It's the Bowtie Oval Earrings which are pearl and concrete earrings by Frances Smersh. The earrings made from 6mm freshwater pearls, sterling silver and denim and grape colored concrete that is poured into a bezel, ground and then lacquered for strength. These concrete jewelry beauties were found at that fabulous site, The Artful Home, for only $130.00!

More about Frances Smersh!
Smersh Design Jewelry and Concrete. The most amazing concrete jewelry!

“My design is an adventure. It happens when my vision, my materials and the unforeseen circumstances involved in hand work, collide.”

The unexpected beauty and color of concrete caught Frances Smersh’s imagination in 1998. The uniqueness of the material in the context of jewelry provides both a technical challenge and an intellectual discussion. It is lightweight, durable and textural. At the same time, it brings up the question of where value truly lies in an object of body adornment.

Each of Smersh’s pieces is constructed of sterling silver bezels. Pigment is then added to a special polymer-based concrete. This is poured into each silver bezel. The concrete cures, dries and is then ground down and sealed with lacquer. –The Artful Home.
